Prayer Earthquake Trembling

Acts 16:25: And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. 26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one*s bands were loosed. 27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. 28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. 29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, 30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. 32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. 34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

That was the unusual way a jailer became saved. Prayer and singing were what the believers did. The earthquake was what God did. The jailer*s trembling was caused by God. His humility was caused by God. His knowledge that he was not saved was caused by God. He heard and believed the word of the Lord. God put rare circumstances in his life to save him. I know there were people praying for me before I was saved. I often wonder how many and who. Perhaps one day God will reveal that to me. I would like to thank them. Not many of us would describe God*s work in our lives before our salvation as an earthquake, but He certainly shook us spiritually. He gave me a total dissatisfaction with my life and who I was.

1 Corinthians 15:34: Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

God woke the jailer to righteousness. I too had been asleep (dead) to righteousness. I had no desire for it but now I do. I was dead in sin and now I am alive unto God.

Romans 6:2: God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

I know God was behind all that happened to me and I am convinced that the jailer knew God was behind all that happened to him. He rejoiced, believing in God and I do too.
